Social isolation and loneliness pose serious health risks to older adults, including cardiovascular decline, depression, and even dementia. These issues have only been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. LifeStream Services is dedicated to offering opportunities that allow older adults to feel connected to their community while maintaining safe social distancing. These new opportunities for the community include the Friendly Caller volunteer program, enhancements to our curbside nutrition program, virtual opportunities, and updates to LifeStream’s annual events to ensure safety of all participants.
Friendly Caller Program
The Friendly Caller program matches volunteers with older adults to simply enjoy conversation and ease feelings of loneliness. Those interested in volunteering to be a Friendly Caller should fill out the volunteer application on the Volunteer page or contact Laura Bray, Volunteer Services Administrator, at 765-759-3372 or lbray@lifestreaminc.org. LifeStream Curbside
Due to COVID-19, we are unable to gather at our senior cafés; therefore, we invite seniors to visit LifeStream Curbside for a meal pack and a curbside enhancer courtesy of LifeStream Services. Social distancing measures will be in place to keep the community safe. Those who are 60+ and are experiencing a lack of socialization or nutrition are eligible for this program. Meal packs must be reserved at least one week in advance with your local café site. Find a meal site near you here or call 800-589-1121.
Virtual Programs
LifeStream has a variety of virtual opportunities including Dementia Friends Information Sessions, LifeStream Live with Angie, and Alzheimer’s Support Groups.
Senior Safety Net Food Distributions
LifeStream and Second Harvest are partnering to provide Senior Safety Net food distributions in Blackford, Delaware, Henry, Jay, Madison, and Randolph counties. These sites provide assorted foods to people who are 60 and over. Distributions are a drive-thru format and practice safe social distancing.
